Awards of the CAS
The Czech Academy of Sciences grants awards for achieved results which contribute to the prestige of Czech science in international comparison and from whose first publication or implementation no more than five years have passed. The awards are presented for completed scientific results of excellent and high-quality research strategically orientated on social priorities.
The Awards of the CAS are granted in the following categories:
- The Award of the CAS for outstanding results of great scientific significance achieved in the resolution of scientific tasks, internal programmes, and international projects financed by the CAS.
- The Award of the CAS for young scientific employees for outstanding results of scientific work achieved with the financial support of the CAS before reaching the age of 35.
- The Award of the President of the CAS for promotion or popularisation of research, experimental development, and innovation granted to research employees for lifelong work in the area of the advancement of research, experimental development, and innovation, including its promotion or popularisation.
In one calendar year, it is possible to present at most three awards in each category with the total financial means paid out in the calendar year not exceeding in categories a) and b) together a total of CZK 500,000 and in category c) also CZK 500,000. The number of awards of the CAS presented and their amount of money is decided by the President of the CAS at the proposal of expert commissions and after discussion with the Academic Council of the CAS.
- Nominations for the Awards of the CAS in categories a) and b) are submitted by the Director of the relevant CAS institute after discussion with the institute council.
- Nominations for the Awards of the CAS in category c) are submitted by the Director of the relevant CAS institute after discussion with the Institute Board, the Science Council of the CAS, or the Council for Academic Media and Popularisation of the CAS.
Nominations for the Awards of the CAS in all categories a), b) and c) are submitted by May 31 of the calendar year, in docx and pdf format to: scicounc@kav.casc.cz.
