Honorary Medal „De scientia et humanitate optime meritis“
Honorary Medal
“De scientia et humanitate optime meritis”
presented by the Czech Academy of Sciences
This medal was established by the Czech Academy of Sciences on March 7, 1995 to recognise eminent Czech as well as foreign personalities for their meritorious contributions in the area of science and humanitarian ideas.
The medal “De scientia et humanitate optime meritis” was designed by an outstanding Czech painter and medallist Josef Hvozdenský, a student of Prof. J. Želibský and Prof. K. Mináč and a respected artist in the field of contemporary graphic arts. He designed numerous medals, awards and emblems to honour great personalities of science, arts and culture, such as Dante Alighieri (in 1965), J. A. Komenský (in 1966), Tycho de Brahe and J. Kepler (in 1971), V. Nezval (in 1979), J. Hašek (in 1980) and others. Noteworthy are also his representative works, e.g. the medal devoted to the 650th anniversary of the foundation of Charles University (in 1998).
