Institute of Philosophy of the CAS announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position Postdoctoral Position in the Interdisciplinary Research Project Knowledge in the Age of Mistrust.

The Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Republic, v. v. i. (the IP) is a public research institution engaged in research in the field of philosophy and related scientific disciplines. The IP, which is the largest workplace in the humanities and social sciences within the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, is made up of more than 200 employees with the common goal of developing international knowledge and strengthening national identity awareness through a critical examination of the history of Czech countries and the Central European Area.

We are looking for a new colleague in the Interdisciplinary Research Project Knowledge in the Age of Mistrust for a postdoctoral position:

          Postdoctoral Position in the Interdisciplinary Research Project Knowledge in the Age of Mistrust

We seek a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher for the Knowledge in the Age of Mistrust (TRUST) consortium project. Our research team cooperates with the Philosophy Faculty of the University of Hradec Králové, and the Institute of Computer Science of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The project is funded by The Johannes Amos Comenius Programme (OP JAK). Our sub-project, entitled Epistemologically disruptive Technologies: aspects of Philosophy of Science and Ethics, covers topics such as:

  • Epistemology and methodology of generative AI
  • Semiotic and linguistic approaches to LLMs
  • Cognitive science, Philosophy of mind and AI
  • Social and ethical perspectives on AI
  • AI and creativity

What we expect?

  • A Ph.D. degree
  • Demonstrated research interest and skills
  • A publication track record appropriate to the candidate’s career phase
  • Proficiency in English

What we offer you?

  • Part-time Position in the range of 0,5 FTE (equivalent to 20 hours per week)
  • 25.000 CZK gross monthly salary  (equivalent to 0.5 part-time job)
  • Two-year contract, with the possibility of extension (until the end of 2028), subject to satisfactory performance in the previous period
