Global Change Research Institute of the CAS announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position SOCIO-ECONOMIC MODELING OF CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION AND MITIGATION IN THE LAND-BASED SECTORS.
The Climate Analysis and Modeling section of the Global Change Research Institute, Czech Academy of Sciences, seeks a new colleague to enhance our expertise in the socio-economic modeling of agriculture and forestry. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to tackling critical sustainability challenges—climate change impacts, adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity, and food—at the science-policy interface in the Czech Republic and the European Union.

As part of our team, you will:
- Collaborate with leading European institutions, including the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Cranfield University, UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, and more.
- Contribute to impactful national and EU research and policy projects such as AdAgriF, Tools4CAP, and ACCREU.
- Develop your own research interests in agriculture, forestry, and climate change at the intersection of nature and human interactions.
BACKGROUND
We offer a researcher position to advance the representation of the Czech agricultural and forestry sectors within crop models as e.g. HERMES, DNDC, MONICA or DSSAT and socio-economic models like GLOBIOM and the FABLE Calculator. You will join a dynamic, team committed to conducting world-class scientific research addressing sustainability challenges nationally and globally. In the same time it is particularly suitable position for young carrier researchers but also technically skilled persons.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement the FABLE Calculator for the Czech Republic.
- Enhance the Czech agricultural and forestry sector’s representation in GLOBIOM-CZE.
- Integrate Czech agricultural and land-use policies into socio-economic models.
- Update and analyze spatially explicit datasets, such as land cover, yields, cropping areas, irrigation, and fertilizer use and apply them in the already set crop modelling environments.
- Lead and contribute to scientific publications, project reports, and policy briefs.
- Expand expertise, build networks, and secure funding for future research.
- Organize and co-lead workshops and stakeholder events.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:
We are looking for a motivated candidate with the following qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree (Ing., Mgr., MSc) or PhD in either economics, natural resources, geography, geospatial analysis, forestry, agriculture, or sustainability.
- Skills: Analytical, quantitative, and programming abilities (e.g., R, Python, GIS tools); Proficiency in GAMS is a plus.
- Language: Proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of Czech is an advantage.
- Experience: Familiarity with data and statistical analysis.
- Attributes: Good communication skills to bridge the gap between science and policy, and the ability to deliver high-quality results on time.
- Shortcomings in any segment can be compensated by ability and willingness to learn fastJ.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

- Duration: Full-time position with funding guaranteed through December 2026, with potential for extension.
- Salary: Competitive, based on qualifications and experience, starting from 20,000 Euro gross per annum.
