Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the CAS announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position Postdoctoral Research Fellow to Shape the Future of Label-Free Super-Resolution Microscopy.

We invite applications for postdoctoral positions within the Nano-Optics group at the Institute of Photonics and Electronics, CAS, led by Marek Piliarik. This role is a part of the ERC-CZ project aimed at pioneering the next generation of super-resolution techniques. Our research focuses on cutting-edge experiments in single-molecule imaging and analytics and development of ultrasensitive and high-speed imaging methods addressing current topics in biology, biophysics, and biochemistry.

Candidates with research experience related to microscopy and bio-imaging and with research interests overlapping physics and biology are encouraged to apply. Candidates are requested to submit a structured CV, a comprehensive list of publications, at least two references, and a personally written motivation letter. Applications should be sent to Mrs. Motlová (motlova@ufe.cz) with the subject line "UFE-NP42".

The call is open for applications util 30 June, 2024, early submissions may accelerate the interview process.

Ideal candidate profile

  • PhD in optics, optoelectronics, applied physics, biophysics or chemistry.
  • Excellent publication record.
  • Research experience and hands-on experimental skills in optics, preferably microscopy, bioimaging, plasmonics, or near-field optics.
  • Keen interest in the interface between physics and biology.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research under the ERC-CZ project, focusing on the development of novel microscopy techniques.
  • Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team, contributing to both technological advancements and biological insights.

About the employer

The Institute of Photonics and Electronics AS CR, v. v. i. (IPE) is a public research institution, one of the research institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the largest non-university research organization in the Czech Republic. IPE carries out fundamental and applied research in the scientific fields of photonics, optoelectronics, and electronics.

The Nano Optics group, headed by Marek Piliarik, is advancing the fundamental understanding of light-matter interactions at the nanoscale. Our focus areas include single-molecule label-free detection, interferometric scattering microscopy (iSCAT), ultrasensitive vibrational spectroscopy, and more. The group has a successful record of technology transfer and industrial collaborations, and participates in a range of cross-disciplinary collaborations, including a partnership with the Dresden International Graduate School for Biomedicine and Bioengineering.
