Institute of Scientific Instruments of the CAS announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position Research and Development Specialist, Research Scientist - Radioelectronics.

The Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences is a scientific and research institution focused on basic and targeted research in optics, atomic physics, laser technology, electron microscopy, magnetic resonance, cryogenics, medical signals, electron and plasma technologies.

For our Quantum Metrology Group in the Department of Coherence Optics, we seek a new colleague who specialises in the research, development, design, and implementation of radiofrequency circuits.

Our team has long been engaged in research on radiofrequency circuits and systems designed for trapping and laser cooling of ions in electrical traps inserted in vacuum chambers, circuit chains for mixing and distributing high-frequency signals, antenna systems for detecting electric field intensity, high-voltage resonant circuits and circuits for filtering unwanted interference along power lines of high-frequency circuits.

Within the offered position, you will participate in solving scientific projects in basic and targeted research in radioelectronics for quantum technologies with trapped ions, including the implementation of photonic quantum chips. The position is suitable for competent scientists or postdoctoral students. You will become a valid and essential part of the scientific team, and you will have the opportunity to participate in solving exciting projects with innovative potential.

Job description:

  • implementation of high-finesse LC resonant circuits, including transformers
  • implementing circuit chains for processing high-frequency signals using modular blocks (amplifiers, splitters, mixers, voltage-controlled attenuators, IQ demodulators, multipliers, power amplifiers, synthesisers, converters, etc.)
  • implementation of antenna systems for electric field drive and detection
  • implementation of EMI filters for blocking unwanted high-frequency interference on DC voltage lines and power distribution networks
  • implementation of high-frequency circuits for cryogenic temperatures and quantum chips with laser-cooled ions
  • theoretical design, calculations of circuit parameters and transfer characteristics
  • measurement of parameters and characteristics of implemented systems using instrumentation, processing and evaluation of signals and measured data
  • presentation of results in scientific publications and at international conferences
  • participation and sharing of results at meetings of international project teams

What we require:

  • minimum of a university degree in electrical engineering with a focus on radioelectronics
  • knowledge of circuits theory and electromagnetic field theory
  • experience with the design, calculations, simulations and implementation of high-frequency circuits
  • work with vector and spectrum analysers, high-frequency oscilloscopes, grid-dip meters, PSW meters, etc.
  • implementation of algorithms for calculations and signal processing in modern SW tools (e.g. Matlab, Python, C/C++, etc.)
  • knowledge of working with a simulation program (e.g. Comsol, Ansys, Micro-Cap, PSpice, etc.) is an advantage
  • knowledge of working with a program for the design of printed circuit boards (e.g. Eagle, KiCAD, etc.) is an advantage
  • technical mentality, responsibility, accuracy, patience, manual skills
  • experience in scientific research work
  • reliability, ability to work independently
  • involvement in a multidisciplinary team with an orientation to optics, quantum physics, electronics, digital signal processing, vacuum technology and cryogenics
  • personal motivation to continue to learn and grow professionally

What we offer:

  • attractive employment with a long-term perspective
  • you will become an essential part of a team with a high diversity
  • flexible work hours
  • a clean working environment, professional training and an introduction to the topic
  • possibility of your further professional development (foreign internships and training)
  • possibility of your own research and development projects
  • possibility of supervising student theses for bachelor's, master's and doctoral studies by you
  • above-average salary according to your abilities
  • five weeks of holidays
  • canteen, subsidised lunches
  • full-time employment
  • possibility to start work immediately or by appointment
