  • Coordination of cooperation with relevant providers (Ministry of Health).
  • Representation in the coordination of knowledge and technology transfer to the application sphere, cooperation with the commercial sector for the II. research area, and conceptual oversight of intellectual property utilization for the II. research area.

Institute of Experimental Medicine of the CAS

Miroslava Anděrová (*1958) completed her studies at the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, in 1983, earning her Ing. degree. In 1991, she received her CSc. degree (Ph.D. equivalent) in microbiology at the Institute of Microbiology of the CAS. From 1991 to 1993, she held a postdoctoral position at the University of California, San Diego, USA, and subsequently, from 1993 to 1995, with the support of an Eli Lilly fellowship, she held the same position at the University of Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France.

Since 1998, she has been working at the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the CAS (IEM), where she led the Laboratory of Neurobiology from 2009 to 2010, and since 2010, she has been heading the Department of Cellular Neurophysiology. From 2016 until March 2025, she served as the director of IEM. Concurrently, she was involved in research and teaching at the Department of Neuroscience, 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague (2012 to 2024).

She is a recognised figure in the field of glial cell pathophysiology research. Her focus is on the role of glial cells in ischemic brain injury, as well as their function in the progression of neurodegenerative diseases of the central nervous system. An important part of her research also includes the role of glial cells in regenerative medicine. She is the author of 82 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, has contributed to several professional books, and is a co-author of three patents. She has participated in numerous basic research projects; notable ones include the Centre for Neuroscience, NPO Exceles, and the international Horizon2020 MSCA-ITN Astrotech project.

Miroslava Anděrová is a member of several professional societies, including the Czech Society for Neuroscience, the Czech Medical Association of Jan Evangelista Purkyně, and the Society for Neuroscience in the USA. She serves on the editorial boards of journals such as ISRN Neuroscience, Journal of Biomedical Graphics and Computing, and Frontiers in Neuroscience. She is a member of scientific and supervisory boards, including the Board of the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the CAS, the Board of the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the CAS and the Supervisory Board of the Institute of Biotechnology of the CAS.

Her other activities include membership in evaluation panels of the Czech Science Foundation, the Bioethics Commission at the Research, Development and Innovation Council, and the Doctoral Board for Neuroscience. As a member of the Doctoral Board, she actively participates in the education and training of doctoral students. She has also contributed to the organisation of several significant international conferences, such as the 7th International School on Stem Cells in Regenerative Medicine and the 10th European Conference on Glial Cells in Health and Disease.
