  • Coordination of activities in the field of scientific information security (trusted research).

 Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the CAS

Ondřej Santolík (*1967) graduated with honours in the field of Physical Electronics and Optics between 1985 and 1990 and received his RNDr. degree from Charles University in Prague. In 1995, he completed his doctorate (Dr.) in Plasma Physics and Ionised Media at the same university. In the same year, he also defended his doctorate in Physics with the highest honours at Université d'Orléans in France.

Since 2004, he has been a senior researcher at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the CAS (IAP), and an associate professor (since 2015, professor) at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University. In 2010, he became the head of the Department of Space Physics and the chairman of the IAP Council. From 1995 to 2004, he worked as a research fellow and assistant professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, and as a researcher at the IAP.

From 1999 to 2001, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Orléans and as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Iowa in the USA. From 2002 to 2019, he undertook regular summer stays as a visiting researcher for NASA projects at the University of Iowa. In 2007, he worked as a Visiting Professor at Université d'Orléans in France. In 2020, he was appointed as a collaborating professor at Kanazawa University in Japan.

At the beginning of his tenure on the Academy Council, he was the author or co-author of more than 370 peer-reviewed scientific publications with over 10,000 citations and an H-index of 57. He regularly presents the results of his scientific work at major international conferences such as the European Geosciences Union (EGU), American Geophysical Union (AGU), Union Radio-Scientifique Internationale (URSI), Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) and Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS), and actively participates in smaller specialised conferences and workshops.

For his work, he has received numerous awards, including the František Běhounek Prize (2024), the URSI Appleton Prize (2023), and recognition for his contribution to the JUICE probe from ESA (2023). He also received the Academic Award (2014), the Fulbright Scholarship (2000), and other significant honours.

Ondřej Santolík is active in many professional organisations and committees, having served as vice-president of the Science Council of the CAS, a member of the scientific advisory structure of ESA, and elected vice-president of URSI. He teaches in the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programmes at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, and has supervised many successful students.
