doc. RNDr. Pavla Jendelová, Ph.D.

Assoc. Prof. Pavla Jendelová, PhD graduated from the Faculty of Science of Charles University, where she received her RNDr. degree in 1988. She completed her doctoral studies at the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the CAS and received her Ph.D. degree in 1999. In 2014 she was habilitated at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University. Currently, she is the head of the Department of Neuroregeneration at the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the CAS, where she has been engaged in long-term research on cell and gene therapy for the treatment of spinal cord injury and neurodegenerative diseases. She collaborates with the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the CAS on the development of innovative biomaterials suitable for neurvou tissue and magnetic nanoparticles for cell labelling and targeted drug delivery. From 2017-2023, she co-led the Centre for Reconstructive Neuroscience with J. Fawcett from the University of Cambridge, focusing on neural tissue regeneration and plasticity through viral vectors and extracellular matrix manipulation. She is currently coordinating a large collaborative project "Excellence in Regenerative Medicine" within the JA Komenský Operational Programme, involving 11 leading research institutions in the country. Jendelová has authored or co-authored 146 articles in prestigious impacted journals, her work has received more than 8 274 citations and her H-index is 46. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Otto Wichterle Prize (2004) and inclusion among the top 25 women scientists according to Forbes Czech Republic in 2024. In 2024, she received a diploma from Mensa Czech Republic for her nomination for an honorary recognition for her significant contribution to the intelligence of the nation, promotion of culture and spreading the good name of the Czech Republic in the world. She is the Vice-Chair of the Institute Council and works with the Ministry of Education to monitor research on human embryonic cells.
