prof. JUDr. PhDr. Michal Tomášek, DrSc.
Graduated summa cum laudae from Charles University in Law, Translatology and Sinology and Oriental Studies. Studied at École Normale Supérieure in Paris, Peking University in China and University of Virginia in the USA. In 2001 received a DrSc. (Research Professor) degree in Commercial Law and Financial Law. In 2003 appointed Associated Professor and in 2006 Full Professor of European Law. Deputy Dean and Director of the Department of European Law of Charles University in Prague. Since 2007, he has been a member of the Committee for the Research Professor Degree (DSc.) of the CAS. In 2011, he founded The Lawyer Quarterly, the first Czech journal for international legal research published in English. Visiting Professor or Scholar at several European universities (Austria, France, Spain) and at the universities in Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and the USA (Arizona, Boston, Chicago, Minnesota, Miami, New York, Seattle). Awarded with the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art (Österreichische Ehrenkreuz für Wissenschaft und Kunst). For his research activities, he received multiple awards, p. ex., from the Rector of Charles University the Bedřich Hrozný award and the Silver medal of Charles University. The President of the Czech Constitutional Court awarded him with the Antonín Knight Randa Silver Medal. He received the Karel Engliš Honorary Medal for the Merrit in the Social and Economic Sciences from the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences. In 2022, he received the Josef Hlávka Prize for scientific work and in 2024, a gold medal from the Archbishop of Prague.
