prof. RNDr. Ondřej Prášil, Ph.D.

Ondřej Prášil (1963) studied biophysics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University in Prague and obtained PhD in microbiology and plant physiology. Is interested in the physiology of photosynthetic algae and cyanobacteria and specializes in the development and application of optical fluorescence methods to study primary photosynthetic production and regulation of photosynthesis of ecologically important microorganisms and their response to stress. He has participated in several oceanographic cruises. Is a professor of biophysics at the Faculty of Science of the University of Bohemia in České Budějovice, where he also trains PhD and MSc students. Has co-authored more than 130 peer-reviewed articles, a book on chlorophyll fluorescence methods in aquatic environments and 5 chapters in monographs. His papers have over 5000 citations (h-index 39). From 2011-2020 he led the transformation of the Třeboň campus of the Institute of Microbiology into the Algatech regional centre for algal biotechnology.
