prof. PhDr. Martin Holý, Ph.D.

Prof. Holý has worked at the Czech Academy of Sciences and its Institute of History since 2003, most recently as its Director (since 2017). He has gained valuable research, academic, organisational, and management experience in both domestic and foreign university environments. As a member of a number of international and national committees, scientific and other councils, and panels for the evaluation of European and other grants, he has had the opportunity to become thoroughly acquainted with national and international science policy. He has worked on or participated in many national and international grants (e.g. Czech Science Foundation, Grant Agency of the Czech Academy of Sciences, COST, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation). His research focuses on European cultural, educational and intellectual history. In these and other fields, he has published nine books and dozens of studies in renowned journals in the Czech Republic and abroad. Some of his contributions have also been published in collective monographs. He has received numerous awards for his work over the past 15 years. He habilitated in 2013 and was appointed professor of Czech history in 2019.
