Prof. Ing. Josef Lazar, Dr.
born December, 12th, 1965 in Bratislava
As part of my research efforts at the Institute of Scientific Instruments, of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, I combine basic and applied research and support cooperation with partners from the application sphere, especially with high-tech industrial companies in the field of optics, laser technologies, nanometrology, precision measurement, optical metrology, laser technology and quantum technologies. I was and am the investigator or co-investigator of 25 grants and projects and a member of the research team of a number of other grants and projects, many providers including international ones, in which the Department of Coherence Optics participated under my leadership. For more than a decade, the Department of Coherence Optics has been financed in terms of personnel costs from project sources - i.e. from these grants an projects. Beyond the framework of grants and projects, I participate together with colleagues from the Department of Coherence Optics in cooperation with the corporate sphere in the form of collaborative and contractual research orders. The primary focus is the development of optical frequency references - absorption cells for metrology and spectroscopy for the global metrology community and custom development of industrial measurement, primarily interferometric methods and techniques.
I served in the Academic Council of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and was responsible for coordinating the transfer of knowledge and technology to the application sphere, coordinating and conceptually supervising the use of intellectual property. As Vice-Chairman of the National Initiative for Quantum Technologies, I significantly participated in the activities leading to the accession of the Czech Republic to the European Quant-Era programs and the European Flagship of Quantum Technologies. I was involved in the negotiations on the creation of the Czech Optical Cluster, of which my institute is a founding member. I am Vice-President of the National Semiconductor Cluster with competence for quantum technologies and quantum chips. I am the principal investigator of the National Competence Center for Advanced Electron and Photon Optics, a large long-term collaborative project combining private and public funding of research and commercialization activities. Since 2021, I have been appointed Director of the Institute of Scientific Instruments, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, v. v. i. I coordinate the AV21 Strategy program entitled Breakthrough Technologies of the Future – Artificial Intelligence, Digitalization, Sensors and Quantum Technologies.
