Doc. RNDr. Jiří Gabriel, DrSc.
Graduate of the Secondary School of Economics in Liberec; after graduation he studied analytical chemistry at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. His PhD thesis in Microbiology was prepared and defended at the Institute of Microbiology of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in 1992. In 2003 he received the degree of Doctor of Science (DrSc) and in 2013 he was appointed Associate Professor of Microbiology at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. His professional interests include the physiology and biochemistry of wood-destroying fungi; he has also contributed to many forensic reports on behalf of the Institute of Microbiology of the CAS, where he has been Deputy Director since 2009. He is a member of the Academy Assembly of the CAS. In 2006-2013 he was the Chairman of the Grant Agency of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, since 2016 he has been the Chairman of the Supervisory Commission of the Academy Assembly of the CAS. In 2010-2016 he was the Chairman of the Czechoslovak Society of Microbiology. He has been working at the Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague since 1994; currently he teaches the courses Repetitorium of Chemistry (not only) for Microbiologists, Introduction to Experimental Mycology and is the guarantor of the course Advances in Microbiology, intended mainly for PhD students.
