Prof. Ing. Václav Sklenička, DrSc.
He graduated in mechanical engineering from the Czech Technical University in 1962 and obtained a CSc. (1972) and a DrSc (1986) degrees in physical metalurgy from the Czechoslovak Academy od Sciences. He joined the Institute of Physical Metallurgy of Czechoslovak Academy of Science (now Institute of Physics of Materials of the Czech Academy of Sciences) in 1966 and was the Director (1993–2001) and the Deputy Director (2001–2012) of the Institute. He was a member of the Academy Coucil (2001–2009) and since 1995 he is a member of the Committee for the Research Professor Degree. Currently, he is a Chief Research Fellow at the Institute of Physics of Materials of the Czech Academy of Sciences. As concerns his educational activities he was appointed as Associate Professor (1994) and full Professor (1998) in Materials Science and Engineering. He was Visiting Professor in the Materials Science Department at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA and has been involved in extensive collaborations with foreign scientists in the field of materials science. He has earned numerous awards and honors including Silver Medal for Science from the Slovak Academy of Sciences and honorary medal „De Scientia et Humanitate Optime Meritis“ from the Czech Academy of Sciences.
