Student Internships

Open Science

The Open Science (Otevřená věda) initiative of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the flagship of the Academy’s cooperation with younger generations. Since 2005, we have been involving talented high school students in hands-on experience and research at the Czech Academy of Sciences in the form of research internships. Our goal is to enable talented students interested in science and research to gain valuable experience in scientific practice, motivate them to pursue higher education, and guide them towards choosing a career in research.

By means of a database located on the official website (Czech only, several internship offers are in English), the Open Science project offers internship opportunities spanning a wide range of topics in the natural sciences, engineering, humanities, and social sciences. The internships cover a wide variety of disciplines: biology, chemistry, physics, geology, ecology, technology, IT, medical sciences, history, philology, philosophy, law, art history, chemical technology, biophysics, astronomy, and more.

Student research internships in Czech and English are held under the guidance of Czech researchers and researchers from abroad at various CAS institutes throughout the Czech Republic. The internships for high school students are year-long. They take place from January to November.

In 2026, 255 high school students from all over the Czech Republic were given the opportunity to get hands-on experience in research. They participate in 150 research internships, which take place under the expert guidance of 131 researchers at 37 CAS institutes.

Radius Center

The Radius Center offers internships for students of bachelor's and master's programs at universities. Its goal is to systematically connect students with leading research institutions and innovative companies and create space for a natural transition between the academic environment and real projects. Internships take place in institutes of Czech Academy of Sciences and in cooperation with companies. Students have the opportunity to compare both sectors and, thanks to completing an internship, find out and clarify where their professional career should go next.

The internship opportunities are continuously expanding and cover a wide range of fields. Currently, topics from the fields of artificial intelligence, physics, materials engineering, biotechnology and management predominate. An overview of all announced internships is available on the Radius Center website.

The internships are conducted in Czech and English and their duration is variable, most often lasting from three months to one year. After the internship, it is possible to continue the cooperation, for example in the form of an extension, follow-up internship or doctoral studies.

In the four years of its existence, the Radius Center has arranged internships for more than two hundred and fifty students from the Czech Republic and abroad. The platform currently includes 22 partners – institutes of Czech Academy of Sciences, Czech and foreign universities and companies.

More information can be found on the Radius Center website and Instagram.
